SCRIPTIVE

July 19 - Sep. 20, 2026

Candace Jensen & Sarah La Puerta

Aleshire Gallery is pleased to present SCRIPTIVE, an exhibition of calligraphic illuminations and works on paper by artists Candace Jensen (S. Vermont) and Sarah La Puerta (Hudson River Valley, NY). Both artists use calligraphy, letterforms and scriptive marginalia in their visual art to explore and metabolize a broad range of themes and subjects, including: music of the spheres, deep ecology, circular time, cyclical, spiraling & circular geometrices, astrologies, old ballads, chthonic poetry, systems of magic, mythic verse, the inherent meaning of material, mundane horrors, news cycles, miracles, utopianism, and interspecies translation.

In SCRIPTIVE, the two artists show selections of their work from the last decade, alongside new, never-before-seen illuminations, decorated texts and drawings made with traditional calligraphic materials, such as; hand-made inks and watercolors from locally gathered materials processed by hand, gouache, tempera, ink, gold leaf, and paper.

Please join us Friday, August 28th from 7-8pm for an artist talk with Candace Jensen and Sarah La Puerta. Hors d’œuvres and refreshments will be available. The event will also be streamed live via Google Meet, by following this link: https://meet.google.com/qyk-yakq-yce.

The gallery is open to the public Thursdays from 11-4pm, and by appointment.
